Welcome
to the Friendicoes SECA Country Sanctuary. The sanctuary has
two and a quarter acres of farmland just outside
Delhi city which provides a retirement home to old or disabled donkeys
& mules from the brick kilns and Police and Army
horses retired from service leading their last few years in peaceful dignity. Here monkeys, cats
and kittens find a refuge, as do injured cows & calves rescued from
the streets or abandoned by their owners because they
stopped producing milk.
Thanks to a generous donation from the RSPCA UK and the
AWBI / Ministry of Environment and Forests it was possible to start the construction of the shelter which today homes 550 animals on an average.
An extra two acres of land to accomodate the fast increasing number of animals is the need of the hour. To donate towards the collection for purchase of land Click Here.
Equine Stables
Friendicoes SECA looks after the retired Police horses and brick kiln donkeys as well as other working Equines who are no longer fit for an active working life. Apart from the Police horses the other animals are bought off their owners and a compensation paid to get the animal released from a working life to be brought to the Friendicoes SECA country sanctuary for rest and recuperation where they live their remaining life in ease and comfort.
Bovine Domicile
The Friendicoes SECA dream of a separate shed for the resident cows in the Gurgaon sanctuary has now become a reality thanks to the kindness and generosity of Mrs. Mehta and her family. The cow shed built in memory of "Bhooru", a member of the Mehta family, now shelters around 30 cows and bulls, rescued from the roads of Delhi and Gurgaon, injured, sick and maimed. Friendicoes still do not have enough space to shelter all the cows and bulls that we are called to rescue, hence we work closely with other gaushalas or cow welfare organisations for cow cases. In the past we have rescued cows and calves, treated them for as long as it is needed and then rehabilitated them with other gaushalas. Hand rearing male calves abandoned after birth is one recurring tragedy. We have hand reared 12 calves since they were days or weeks old and abandoned on the highway or residential colonies or in some cases having lost their mothers to accidents or post delivery complications. They are all now part of the Friendicoes bovine family.
Kennels

Around 400 dogs
romp and play in large runs at the Sanctuary.
Some of them get adopted at the
city shelter by large hearted people
and the rest come to our country shelter.
The dog area is divided in large open
enclosures for fun and exercise with three ponds to cool off during summer and shelter 8in large rooms in winter . All
dogs are vaccinated & spayed. Our deep felt gratitude for the generous
donations of Laxmi & Chandar,
the Subramaniams & Gauri Prakash
Canjels who made this possible for the
dogs.
Kitty Korner
One
end of the sanctuary has the "Kitty
Korner", a shelter for all
the cats abandoned with us or rescued
from drains and terraces. Our cat shelter
is a large, roomy, two floored building
with an
enclosed garden that houses
close to a hundred cats. We have recently expanded these enclosure to accomodate the increasing number of cats that are abandoned with us. Friendicoes has to battle many superstitious fears regarding cats and educate people in accepting them as loving and intelligent pets. We are the only cat shelter in and around Delhi and need funds to expand our open air cat enclosure. Very few people adopt cats in India and the adoption of Adult Cats is a non happening event.
Bunny House

The Friendicoes SECA Bunny House provides shelter to over 50 rabbits who have been abandoned by their owners at various points of time. Every rabbit here is an ex pet who after providing temporary entertainment to their owners been left with us to fend for themselves.
