Rescue of a Pug puppy!

July has been an exciting month for Friendicoes… with lots of rescues and raids. One of the most exciting and successful rescues was that of a Pug puppy from a palatial mansion in posh south Delhi.

The Pug puppy was reported by a woman who refused to be identified. On a visit to her sister she came to hear from the servants’ grapevine about the ill treatment being meted out by the sister’s neighbors to their 3 month old Pug puppy. Apparently in a fit of temper the lady of the house had kicked the pup one day and broken his hind leg. She never wanted him in the first place and her husband had bought the pup on a whim and to placate the kids who wanted a pet. But the poor pup was never allowed inside the house. When the Friendicoes team of Aarti and Sanjay went to check on the complaint they found the poor baby in a tiny bird cage, one leg plastered and some old food rotting away in a bowl with no signs of any drinking water near him. The cage was sitting in a corner of the porch at 42 degrees temperature. The plaster on the leg was huge, obviously a home job and smelling tremendously.

The team did not even bother to reason with the woman who was least interested in the pup and said “I am getting his leg treated so that we can return him to the breeder and claim back our money. My husband had bought him when I was not at home and we do not want him”. Aarti just picked up the pup and walked out of the house. The woman made her staff follow the team to Friendicoes where Geeta, Friendicoes Vice President, explained to them that they can be prosecuted under Prevention of Cruelty Act for the way they have treated the animal. She even convinced them to pay a fine in the form of a donation to Friendicoes to be used for further treatment of the pup. The puppy was then fostered by Geeta till he found a home with Laila, an animal lover who has two other dogs. Laila’s son Sean and Gunda (meaning brat) are inseparable and spend all their time together. Gunda is now rather plump, irrepressibly mischievous, and ever ready to take on the biggest dog on the block.
