Animal
rescue is one of the most important parts of our
work, since this is what we really stand for-rescuing
any animal in distress and thus preventing
cruelty on the roads. Every day on an average we
rescue over 100 animals-cats, dogs, birds, camels,
horses, donkeys, monkeys etc. Our five ambulances
and rescue teams equipped with the necessary first
aid and rescue equipment are available for hit and
run dogs,
kittens
in drains or wells,
birds which have flown into high rise buildings
with glass fronts, abandoned and injured
donkeys
and horses and electrocuted
monkeys.
We also deliver first aid on site to abused pets
or neglected strays. Our staff is well trained and
equipped to handle all such emergencies.
In 2006 we responded
to thousands of such distress calls. The rescued
animals undergo necessary veterinary care at the
city hospital. The stray dogs, which are rescued
from residential areas, are released back in the
same area once they are medically fit for release.
This helps us to maintain a healthy population of
community pets. Cats and kittens if not claimed
or adopted become permanent FRIENDICOES shelter
animals. But monkeys and birds are given to our
sister concern WILDLIFE SOS for maintenance and
care and rehabilitation (if possible).
Many
times our animal rescue teams find abandoned or
lost pets on streets, some are abandoned in dustbins
or on busy roads…therefore an important part of
our rescue mission is to reunite
the lost pet with its owner or to find
good decent homes for the abandoned pets, since
they are not strays or feral and when adopted would
fit best into nice loving homes. Thus pet adoption
figures high on FRIENDICOES-SECA’S priority list.
So, remember
FRIENDICOES needs your help to re-home pets (particularly mixed breeds) and find homes for the intelligent but unfortunately ignored INDIAN MONGREL and
to fundraise so that we can provide better care
and help more animals who need us.
