Cars, Cultures and Compassion

Cars, Cultures and Compassion

In January this year, Geeta (vice president of Friendicoes) received a strange phone call. A young Indian couple from the UK was looking to drive from London to Delhi and wanted to do it in aid of Friendicoes. The Friendicoes team was a little skeptical though. We had heard it all before, seen grand plans go up in smoke and the promise of large donations disappear in to thin air. Despite our inhibitions we went along with their plans, giving them what information they needed but expecting little to come of it.

On the 7th of June however Pooja and Tushar completed their epic journey across 15 nations. Making it to Delhi intact and having raised 2lakh rupees for Friendicoes along the way. Glowing from the exhilaration of their 53-day trip, Pooja and Tushar were greeted at the Qutab Minar by family, friends and the media. They gave interviews, embraced their kin and spoke eloquently about the highs and lows of their journey and their passion for animals.

The couple began planning for their dream adventure in early 2009 – researching places, travel documents, visas, and permits, technology, equipment, cars and more, A good 15 months before embarking on the trip. The route they followed cut across London, Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China , Tibet, Nepal and finally home sweet home – India. Through their trip, the duo kept an exciting blog, updating it every few days, sharing their many new experiences with us more sedentary folk.

7 memorable weeks later Pooja and Tushar have earned the respect and love of a thousand voiceless animals and have proved to be inspirational ambassadors for animal welfare. Friendicoes is eternally indebted to these 2 travelers for the commitment and love they have shown us and wish them many more amazing, compassionate adventures together.
