…without the wonderful helpers who bathe, groom and walk the shelter animals where would we be!

Being a volunteer at Friendicoes and spending a few moments with the animals can really be a fulfilling experience. These misunderstood animals return your love three-fold. Their silent communication of the eyes is more expressive than any vocal communication. The trust and the unselfish love reflected in their eyes make every sacrifice worthwhile. 

Volunteers are encouraged to spend as much time as they can at the city shelter and also at our country sanctuary. Grooming, de-ticking, bathing the dogs, cuddling and playing with the puppies and kittens, taking them for walks, cleaning their cages, helping in feeding them comprises the main part of the hands-on work that volunteers can do. Apart from that volunteers can help create awareness about vaccination and sterilization of strays in their locality, among their friends and family. They can also help collect old newspapers, old furniture and donate rice, cereals and flour. Helping out at fund raising stalls and conducting school programmes, writing articles for the website, clicking photographs and adoption programme for stray puppies and kittens and abandoned pets are other activities that volunteers can take up. Volunteers are welcome to bring along treats for the animals and indulge them a little.

The country sanctuary in Gurgaon houses horses, donkeys, monkeys, cows and calves apart from the 500 odd dogs and cats. So volunteers interested in hands on work with the animals have more scope and variety of work like grooming the horses, exercising them, attending to the donkeys, helping feed the cows and calves, cleaning their stalls etc. There’s even scope for a little gardening for someone with a green thumb who can help us maintain the burial site by planting and rearing a lot of greenery around the area and also all over the sanctuary site.

What we can do for these animals is insignificant to what we get in return-satisfaction, peace, contentment and a sense of worth. But it takes a lot of commitment and dedication to be a true Friendicoes volunteer…
